GBN 2009 – Dallas returns to Dallas

I received the following e-mail last Friday. It began,

Dear Dallas:

Congratulations! We are delighted to invite you to present at the 2009 SAP BusinessObjects Users Conference. Having received more than 435 submissions of quality content, our selection committee feels confident that sessions such as yours will make this our strongest conference program to date.

This year’s Global BusinessObjects Network (GBN) conference will once again be at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, Texas. The conference will be my fifth in attendance and the fourth in a row for presenting. Normally, a conference speaker submits several abstracts in hopes that one gets selected. This year, three of my four abstracts were accepted:

Deploying BI to the Masses using SAP BusinessObjects Explorer

Session 711 – Formerly known as Polestar, SAP BusinessObjects Explorer “empowers organizations to extend the reach of BI to all information workers.” Explorer is an interesting product that leverages the universe semantic layer and integrates nicely with Web Intelligence and Microsoft Excel. Explorer is also an option for Edge BI 3.1 customers and I’m planning to demo on the Edge platform. I’ll be focusing on installation, deployment, sizing and security for IT professionals, although I will demo the end-user capabilities somewhat. Those seeking a robust product tour will want to attend Deepa Sankar’s breakout, Revolutionizing Information Access with SAP BusinessObjects Explorer.

Getting Personal with Publications and Profiles

Session 909 – This breakout is an updated version of my presentation from Insight 2006 in San Francisco, California. Since publications (aka report bursting) were greatly overhauled on the XI 3.x platform, there’s a lot of new capabilities to discuss. As with Explorer, I’m planning to demonstrating publications on the Edge BI 3.1 platform, which is the first Edge version to support publications, bursting up to 100 recipients.

Universe Design: Evolution, Intelligent Design, Or Just A Big Mess?

Session 1004 – This breakout will take a look at the lifecycle of a universe, looking at best practices in requirements gathering, design, implementation, and maintenance. I’m hoping that project managers and team leads will find it as useful as universe designers, as much of the success of a universe is determined before the Designer application is even launched. For more emphasis on using Designer itself, my colleagues Alan Mayer and Dave Rathbun will both be presenting at GBN.

What would you like to see in any of these presentations? Your comments, as always, are welcome and encouraged.

I hope to see you in Dallas, Texas this October!

  1. I'm struggling with how to set up bursted, personalized email delivery to dynamic recipients using 3.1 Publisher. I've used BCA (in the distant past) and the XIR2 scheduler in a simpler fashion but I just can't figure out how to get all the pieces to work! Arg. THIS would make a good presentation.

  2. *sigh* It seems that my trip to Dallas has gotten nixed in budget constraints. I'd really like to attend that Universe Design seminar, though. Any chance you'll publish the slides post-conference?

And, you probably get this a lot, but your title just makes me want to say, "Multipass."
